BERLIN, 22 November(UN Department of Public Information) -- “Promoting an enabling environment for digital development” was the theme of the seventh meeting of the United Nations Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Task Force, held on 19 and 20 November in Berlin, hosted by the German Foreign Ministry.

A high-level seminar on policy awareness and security issues in information technology will be held in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber on Friday, 19 November, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

UNITED NATIONS ESTABLISHES WORKING GROUP ON INTERNET GOVERNANCE

NEW YORK, 11 November (Working Group on Internet Governance) -- Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced today the establishment of the Working Group on Internet Governance.  The Working Group will prepare the ground for a decision on this issue by the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society, to be held in Tunis in November 2005.

IRELAND TO GIVE $5.1 MILLION TO UNITED NATIONS INITIATIVE FOR MODERN

TECHNOLOGIES TO HELP EDUCATION IN DEVELOPING WORLD

            UNITED NATIONS, 1 November -- Ireland is to contribute $5.1 million to a Unitedd Nations initiative that aims to connect thousands of schools and villages in the developing world through information and communication technologies (ICTs).

GENEVA, 16 September (UN Information Service) -- Consultations on the establishment of the Working Group on Internet Governance that was requested last December by the World Summit on the Information Society will be held in Geneva on 20 and 21 September.
