FIFTH COMMITTEE WARNED ABOUT TACTICS TO DESTROY INTERNATIONAL CIVIL SERVICE FROM WITHIN

The General Assembly would raise from the previous limit of $12,000 payments that could be made to United Nations system pension-drawing retirees to $22,000 per calendar year, should it adopt a draft decision approved this morning without a vote by the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) as it considered human resources management.

The Secretary-General has informed the Security Council that he has decided to appoint a Special Envoy who will travel to the Great Lakes region in the first days of November and remain there for about one month.
