The Security Council this evening extended the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), which was to expire on 15 December, until 15 June 2003.

The Secretary-General met today in The Hague, the Netherlands, with his Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto, to take stock of efforts to solve the Cyprus problem.

On Tuesday afternoon, 19 November, the Secretary-General flew to Belgrade, where he met with Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica.
