TUMBA (SWEDEN)/ROME, 11 June (FAO) -- The private sector must become a driving force in an international alliance against hunger, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said on Wednesday, urging closer collaboration between business, governments and international organizations.

UNFPA EMERGENCY MEDICAL SUPPLIES ARRIVE IN BAGHDAD

NEW YORK, 11 June (UNFPA) –- A new shipment of emergency reproductive health supplies, intended to meet the urgent needs of Iraqi women, arrived in Baghdad on 9 June.  The supplies, provided by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), were dispatched on a UNFPA/United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) convoy that crossed the border from the Iranian city of Kermanshah.

SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS CYPRUS FORCE UNTIL 15 DECEMBER,

UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTING RESOLUTION 1486 (2003)


The Security Council this morning extended the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) until 15 December, noting the Government of Cyprus had agreed that its continued presence was necessary, in view of the prevailing conditions on the island.
