CARTAGENA PROTOCOL ON BIOSAFETY ENTERS INTO FORCE IN SEPTEMBER

NAIROBI, 13 June (United Nations Environment Programme) -- Palau has become the fiftieth country to ratify the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, starting a 90-day countdown to the agreement's entry into force.

UN AGENCIES WARN THAT FOOD AID NEEDS IN SOUTHERN AFRICA REMAIN SUBSTANTIAL

JOHANNESBURG/ROME, 13 June (FAO) -- Southern Africa still requires substantial food aid despite the fact that more food was produced in the region than during last year's severe food crisis, according to reports released by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP).

EXPERTS MEETING ON 10-YEAR PLAN FOR SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION, PRODUCTION

TO BE HELD IN MARRAKECH, 16 – 19 JUNE


NEW YORK, 12 June -- Over 100 participants from about 70 countries will meet on Monday in Marrakech, Morocco, to take the first steps towards implementing one of the key commitments made by world leaders at the 2002 Johannesburg Summit:  to develop a 10-year framework of programmes for sustainable consumption and production.

SECURITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE ISSUES GUIDELINES TO IDENTIFY INDIVIDUALS, ENTITIES

WHOSE FINANCIAL ASSETS SHOULD BE TRANSFERRED TO IRAQ DEVELOPMENT FUND


The Security Council Committee established by resolution 661 (1990) concerning the situation between Iraq and Kuwait on 11 June 2003 adopted the following guidelines for the application of paragraphs 19 and 23 of resolution 1483 (2003).
