GENEVA, 29 August (UN Information Service) -- Following is the address by Sergei Ordzhonikidze, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, at the memorial service held today at the Palais des Nations for those killed and wounded in the attack on United Nations headquarters in Baghdad on 19 August 2003:

SECRETARY-GENERAL DEEPLY CONCERNED BY BREAKDOWN OF CEASEFIRE IN NEPAL

The Secretary-General is deeply concerned by the breakdown of the ceasefire and the recent upsurge in violence in Nepal.  He remains convinced that there is no alternative to the continuation of dialogue and a peaceful solution to the conflict.

UNEP SENDS ADVISOR TO PAKISTAN OIL SPILL SITE

NAIROBI/BANGKOK, 28 August (UNEP) -- The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has dispatched one of its emergency response specialists to Pakistan to assist the authorities to assess the damage caused by oil spilled from the tanker MT Tasman Spirit.

The UNEP Executive Director Klaus Toepfer said this followed a request for assistance from the Pakistan Government.
