Top UN relief official welcomes release of aid workers in Sudan


NEW YORK/GENEVA, 6 June (OCHA) -- The United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, Jan Egeland, welcomed today’s release of 16 humanitarian workers detained by the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A) in North Darfur, Sudan.  They were released this morning and appear to be in good health and were not harmed while being held by the SLM/A.

ROME, 7 June (FAO) -- Farmers in Sudan's contested NubaMountains have received seeds, tools and construction materials from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to rehabilitate agriculture and build dams, seedbanks and community nurseries.

The Secretary-General was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ronald Reagan, the fortieth President of the United States of America.  He extends his sincere condolences to Mrs. Nancy Reagan, to the family of the former President, and to the Government and people of the United States.
