TSUNAMI RELIEF EFFORT:  ADOLF OGI CALLS WORLD OF SPORT TO COORDINATED ACTION

GENEVA, 10 January (UN Information Service) -- Adolf Ogi, the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, has issued a call for coordinated action to the sports world in response to the recent Indian Ocean tsunami on behalf of the United Nations system.

The Secretary-General and his wife Nane arrived from Jakarta to Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Friday night, 7 January, and began his visit Saturday morning with a meeting with representatives of a dozen United Nations agencies, plus the Asian Development Bank, to review their coordinated efforts to deliver relief to the victims of the 26 December tsunami.
