United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Ottawa, Canada, on Wednesday, 12 May, in the morning, for his first official visit to the country. The Secretary-General first met Michaëlle Jean, the Governor-General of Canada, at her residence, Government House. They discussed the situation in Haiti, the Millennium Development Goals, including maternal and child health, women’s empowerment, as well as the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

NEW YORK, 12 May (United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs) ‑‑ At its thirtieth Ministerial Meeting, held last week in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, the 11 member States of the United Nations Standing Advisory Committee on Security Questions in Central Africa (UNSAC) unanimously adopted the “Central African Convention on the control of small arms and light weapons, their ammunition, parts and components that can be used for their manufacture, repair or assembly”.

On 11 May 2010, the Security Council Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee approved the addition of the two entries specified below to its Consolidated List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 1904 (2009) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.
