HEADQUARTERS PRESS BRIEFING BY HABITAT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR


The challenge of a divided city was the main message of two new reports of the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat), its Executive Director, Anna Tibaijuka, told correspondents this afternoon at a Headquarters press briefing.  On Wednesday, the General Assembly would convene a three-day special session to appraise recent global progress in the development of human settlements.

HEADQUARTERS PRESS BRIEFING ON ASSEMBLY HIV/AIDS SESSION


"Good progress" had been made overall in ongoing negotiations on the draft outcome document to be adopted by the forthcoming special session of the General Assembly on HIV/AIDS, Penny Wensley, the Permanent Representative of Australia to the United Nations, told a Headquarters press briefing this afternoon.  The session is scheduled for 25 to 27 June.

PRESS CONFERENCE ON HIV/AIDS


Another round of negotiations on the key outcome document of the forthcoming General Assembly special session on HIV/AIDS began at headquarters yesterday.


The talks this week will seek agreement on a revised draft of the "Declaration of Commitment" to be adopted at the special session scheduled for

25 to 27 June.

PRESS CONFERENCE BY HEAD OF SECURITY COUNCIL MISSION TO GREAT LAKES REGION


The Security Council mission leaving tomorrow for the Great Lakes region would lend support to the parties implementing the Lusaka accord to which they had agreed in 1999, the head of the mission said.  Jean-David Levitte, France’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, made that clarification this afternoon at Headquarters while briefing correspondents on the nature of the mission.
