NGO COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS UPGRADING OF CONSULTATIVE STATUS FOR FOUR ORGANIZATIONS

A Tunisian woman's organization and an information technologies organization were recommended for the broadest "general" consultative status with the Economic and Social Council this morning as the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) continued its resumed 2001 session by considering requests for reclassification.

A representative of Freedom House responded this morning to comments on a recently submitted special report to the Committee on Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs) as the Committee met this morning to continue discussing its methods of work and to begin consideration of special reports.

The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) this morning took note of ten quadrennial reports submitted by NGOs that have general and special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, as it continued its resumed 2001 session.  It deferred two such reports pending clarifications.
