The United Nations will host a workshop and discussion entitled “Educating against Racism” on 29 October at 10 a.m. EDT.  The programme will explore how education and educators can challenge racism and prejudice - legacies of histories of oppression, atrocity crimes and genocide.  The programme will illustrate how teachers might facilitate difficult conversations about identity, discrimination, racism and prejudice, and support students to respond with empathy and action.

As the as the Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) continued its joint general debate today, some delegates called upon the administering Powers of Non‑Self‑Governing Territories to fulfil their responsibilities under the Declaration on Decolonization, while others emphasized the importance of cooperation between peace operations and host countries.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that following unprecedented floods in Sudan, affecting 875,000 people, a secondary health emergency has put 4.5 million at risk of vector-borne diseases.  Efforts are now addressing supply needs, amid funding shortages in the Humanitarian Response Plan.

Governments must ensure that people facing discrimination are included in dialogues and decisions affecting their lives, experts told the Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) today, as delegates discussed cultural rights, as well as the human rights of persons with disabilities and albinism.
