The Security Council this morning adopted its programme of work for October, in its first consultations under the Vietnamese presidency of the Security Council.

At UN Headquarters this morning, the Deputy Secretary-General held a town hall meeting to update UN staff on the outbreak caused by the influenza A (H1N1) virus, as it is called now.

The Secretary-General spoke about Influenza A (H1N1) at an informal gathering of the General Assembly in New York. In his remarks, the Secretary-General said that, if and when the world faces a severe influenza pandemic, the UN system is ready.
