NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS `UNITED NATIONS SYSTEM IN 21ST CENTURY' SUBJECT

The Security Council this afternoon adjusted the mandate of the United Nations Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR) and granted a final extension until 8 March 1996.
The following statement was made today in Geneva by Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:
* Secretary-General recommends Security Council extend UNFICYP mandate for six months; expresses concern at excessive levels of military forces in Cyprus.
In Press Release GA/9035 of 12 December, the fourth paragraph on page 19 should be corrected to read as follows:
"EGIDIUS HAKWENYE (Namibia) said his delegation had received proper instructions on the draft resolution on nuclear testing."
At the current session the Committee approved 42 draft proposals, two by recorded votes, and held 45 formal meetings.
