Press BRIEFING BY CHAIRMAN OF SECURITY COUNCIL AL-QAIDA SANCTIONS COMMITTEE


Member States were now more aware of the need to cooperate with the Security Council Committee responsible for the implementation of sanctions against Al-Qaida, the Taliban and their associates –- that was an encouraging conclusion of the second report by the team of independent experts assisting that body, correspondents were told at a Headquarters press briefing this morning.

With a mid-term assessment of global efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals just months away and with many of the world’s richest countries pledging to help Africa accelerate growth and make lasting gains against poverty, the head of the United Nations Economic Commission for that troubled continent today previewed an upcoming study on the impact of HIV/AIDS on key areas of governance and economic development.
