Secretary-General Appoints Unaisi Lutu Vuniwaqa of Fiji Assistant Secretary-General for Safety and Security

United Nations Secretary‑General António Guterres today appointed Unaisi Lutu Vuniwaqa of Fiji as Assistant Secretary‑General for Safety and Security.  Ms. Vuniwaqa succeeds Nóirín O’Sullivan of Ireland, to whom the Secretary‑General is grateful for her contribution and dedication.

The General Assembly adopted a resolution on follow‑up to the Secretary‑General’s report, Our Common Agenda, and began a debate on Security Council reform, with delegates calling for galvanized action to realize long‑awaited demands to make the body fit for purpose to face twenty‑first century challenges.
