United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Tunis on Monday evening, 21 March, after completing a visit to Egypt. Marking the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, senior United Nations and Government officials today honoured the “heroes” that had fought and died to overcome the legacy of one of humanity’s “darkest chapters”, and called for action on behalf of millions who were still being subjected to intolerable forms of forced labour and exploitation.

Concluding the first part of its resumed sixty-fifth session, the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) this afternoon approved by consensus and recommended to the General Assembly resolutions on the Capital Master Plan, Joint Inspection Unit and various aspects of the programme budget for the 2010-2011 biennium.
