Top United Nations Official Urges Maintaining Support for Ending Violence against Civilians, Holding Elections in Democratic Republic of Congo

Despite progress in consolidating stability in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, international support must be maintained to end violence against civilians and facilitate upcoming elections, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative in that country told the Security Council in a briefing today.

United Nations Secretary-General to Honour Courage, Ingenuity of Women Who Braved Nazi Persecution during Holocaust

On 10 February, the United Nations Department of Public Information will honour women of the Holocaust at the sixth annual observance of the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, in a ceremony to be held in the General Assembly Hall from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The ceremony had originally been scheduled for 27 January, but had to be cancelled due to the closure of the United Nations Headquarters building as a result of inclement weather.

Upon his arrival, the Secretary-General met with a delegation of the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS), comprising Henry Ajumogobia, Foreign Minister of Nigeria, and James Victor Gbeho, President of the ECOWAS Commission.
