Following are UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s remarks on the election of His Excellency Mogens Lykketoft of Denmark as President of the General Assembly, in New York on 15 June:
The General Assembly today elected by acclamation Mogens Lykketoft, Speaker of Parliament of Denmark, as President of its seventieth session, also selecting, in consecutive meetings, Bureaux members of its six Main Committees.
On 15 June 2015, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) enacted the amendments specified with underline and strikethrough in the entries below on its Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2161 (2014) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.
The Secretary-General is on his way back to New York from Geneva, where earlier today he met with representatives of the Government of Yemen. He said that the other parties to consultations on Yemen were on their way to Geneva and warned that the country’s very existence hangs in the balance.
NEW YORK, 15 June (Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea) ― The twenty-fifth Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea was held at Headquarters from 8 to 12 June.
The Special Committee of 24, resuming its annual session today, approved several texts, including on the dissemination of information on decolonization to the Non-Self-Governing Territories, with particular emphasis on the options for self-determination, and the transmission of information from them, while also considering the question of Gibraltar.
