The UN refugee agency is helping survivors of two incidents over the weekend involving boats carrying refugees and migrants between Turkey and Greece that left some 40 people dead or missing.  Europe has seen more than 442,400 arrivals by sea so far this year – 82 per cent from the top 10 refugee-producing countries, led by Syria.

On 21 September 2015, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) approved the addition of the entries specified below to its Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2161 (2014) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations:
