Amid weak economic recovery, rapidly ageing populations and the continuing effects of unemployment on millions of people worldwide, the United Nations and its partners must put forward coherent universal policies that would empower people to take charge of their future and develop greater resilience to external shocks, delegates said today as the Commission for Social Development opened its fifty-second regular session.
The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations today concluded its regular session with the adoption of its report, in which it recommended that the Economic and Social Council grant consultative status to 225 applicants across regions and missions of the 439 applicants it considered during its session.
The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations today recommended 16 organizations for special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council and deferred action on the status of 10 others.
