GENEVA, 2 July (UN Information Service) -- The Governing Council of the United Nations Compensation Commission, under the presidency of Ambassador Michael Steiner (Germany), has concluded its fifty-second session today and approved awards of $380,532,962.70 for compensation.

GENEVA, 25 June (UN Information Service) -- The Governing Council of the United Nations Compensation Commission will hold its fifty-second session from 29 June to 1 July 2004 under the Presidency of Ambassador Michael Steiner (Germany).

SECRETARY-GENERAL CONDEMNS ‘IN THE STRONGEST TERMS’ MURDER OF HOSTAGE IN IRAQ

The Secretary-General is very concerned about the recent trend of hostage-taking in Iraq.  In the latest incident, Mr. Kim Sun-Il, interpreter from the Republic of Korea for a trade company, was taken hostage on 17 June 2004.
