HUMANITARIAN AGENCIES FACE $2.25 BILLION SHORTFALL


NEW YORK/GENEVA, 15 June (OCHA) -- The United Nations needs $2.25 billion until the end of the year to address the critical requirements of 49.4 million people affected by 25 crises in Africa, Europe and Asia.

UGANDA:  ATTACKS ON internally displaced persons CAMPS KILL


MORE THAN 125 IN PAST MONTH


NEW YORK, 11 June (OCHA) -- The United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, Jan Egeland, has condemned a series of attacks by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) on camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in northern Uganda that have left more than 125 people dead in the past four weeks.

IMPROVED HUMANITARIAN ACCESS needed IN BuKAVU,


says un emergency relief coordinator


NEW YORK, 11 June (OCHA) -- Since fighting in the Democratic Republic of the Congo erupted around Bukavu on 26 May, there have been reports that sexual violence has been widespread and that some 50 civilians have been killed.

Top UN relief official welcomes release of aid workers in Sudan


NEW YORK/GENEVA, 6 June (OCHA) -- The United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, Jan Egeland, welcomed today’s release of 16 humanitarian workers detained by the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A) in North Darfur, Sudan.  They were released this morning and appear to be in good health and were not harmed while being held by the SLM/A.

UN RESPONDS TO HUMANITARIAN NEEDS IN NIGERIA


NEW YORK, 26 May (OCHA) -- In the wake of inter-communal violence that has reportedly left nearly 500 dead and some 50,000 displaced, United Nations humanitarian agencies are bringing aid to people in Bauchi and NassarawaStates.
