The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Olara A. Otunnu, has welcomed the statement by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) that it would demobilize young fighters under the age of 15 and return them to their homes.

The Human Rights Committee this morning concluded its sixty-eighth session -– held at United Nations Headquarters from 13 to 31 March –- following consideration of reports submitted by the Republic of the Congo, United Kingdom (Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man), Mongolia and Guyana under article 40 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE DISCUSSES PARTICIPATION IN 2001 WORLD CONFERENCE AGAINST RACISM

The Human Rights Committee this afternoon was invited to attend the Preparatory Committee meetings for the World Conference against Racism in May of this year and the follow-up meetings in 2001, Wan-Hae Lee, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, told members of that body.
