Only dialogue could bring about reconciliation and peace, the Director- General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) told the gathering of world leaders this morning, at a round table discussion to mark the launch of the United Nations Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations, 2001.
During the past 12 months, the authority and integrity of the General Assembly had been denigrated by Member States seeking to curry favour with other United Nations organs, Assembly President Theo-Ben Gurirab (Namibia) told delegations at the closing of the fifty-fourth session this morning.
