The Secretary-General, marking the tenth anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child, stressed that the international community must renew its commitment to work together so that girls can play a full and equal part in their communities and societies. Following are UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed’s remarks, as prepared for delivery, at the annual ministerial meeting of Foreign Ministers of landlocked developing countries on the theme “Accelerating implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and building momentum towards the third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries”, today:

The World Food Programme’s first humanitarian shipment of grain from Ukraine, delivered under the Black Sea Grain Initiative, has arrived in Ethiopia and will be distributed in the coming weeks. The shipment will support one month of assistance to over 1.5 million people who have been displaced by drought and conflict.
