The Secretary-General arrived in Beirut from Cairo in the morning of Friday, 20 March. He was greeted by Foreign Minister Fares Bouez. He met privately with the Foreign Minister, and then both Lebanese and United Nations delegations spent over an hour discussing Iraq, the Middle East Peace process and the situation in southern Lebanon.
The Secretary-General began the first leg of his Middle East tour in Amman, where he arrived from Geneva in the evening of Tuesday, 17 March.
The Secretary-General departed to Washington, D.C on the morning of Wednesday, 11 March. He and his party had an unscheduled 30-minute meeting on arrival at 10 a.m at the Ronald Reagan airport with the United States Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs, Princeton Lyman.
Secretary-General Kofi Annan departed New York for Iraq on Thursday, 19 February, on a mission to try to reach agreement with the Iraqi Government on a diplomatic solution to the weapons inspections stand-off.
