SECRETARY-GENERAL'S VISIT TO UNITED KINGDOM, 24-28 JUNE

19990628 On Thursday, 24 June, the Secretary-General flew from Moscow to London for an unofficial visit to the United Kingdom.

At 6:00 pm, he met with Prime Minister Tony Blair, following which he met with the press.

ACTIVITIES OF SECRETARY-GENERAL IN WASHINGTON, D.C., ON 8 JUNE

19990610 The Secretary-General travelled to Washington, D.C., in the afternoon of Tuesday, 8 June, to address the Board of Directors of the United States Chamber of Commerce.

In his speech, the Secretary-General emphasized that the United Nations needs the world's businessmen and businesswomen as full partners "in our global mission of peace and development".

19990604 At the invitation of His Holiness Pope John Paul II, the Secretary-General travelled to Rome to meet with the Pope, in order to assess the situation in the Balkans and the prospects for resolving the crisis and building peace in the region.
