SECURITY COUNCIL APPROVES PURCHASE OF OIL-PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT ALLOWING IRAQ TO MEET 'OIL-FOR-FOOD' GOALS

Noting that under existing circumstances Iraq is unable to export petroleum or petroleum products sufficient to produce $5.256 billion worth of oil, referred to in resolution 1153 (1998), the Security Council this afternoon authorized States to export necessary equipment to allow Iraq to meet that sum.

SECURITY COUNCIL DECIDES TO TERMINATE ARMS EMBARGO AGAINST GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE

Acting under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, the Security Council this afternoon decided to terminate the remaining prohibitions on the sale of arms and related matériel and petroleum product supplies to Sierra Leone, imposed under its resolution 1132 of 8 October 1997.
