SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS TERM OF OFFICE FOR FOUR JUDGES

OF INTERNATIONAL TRIBUNAL FOR RWANDA


Adopted Unanimously, Resolution 1482 (2003)

Allows for Disposition of Cases in Progress


The Security Council this afternoon extended the term of office of four permanent judges at the International Tribunal for Rwanda, in order to allow them to dispose of a number of ongoing cases.

PRESS STATEMENT ON DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO BY SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT


Following is today’s press statement on the Democratic Republic of the Congo by Security Council President Munir Akram (Pakistan):


The Security Council received a letter from the Secretary-General calling for the deployment of a possible emergency international force.


Some Member States have been approached by the Secretary-General to participate in this force.

SECURITY COUNCIL ESTABLISHES CÔTE D’IVOIRE MISSION FOR SIX MONTHS,

UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTING RESOLUTION 1479 (2003)


Determining that the situation in Côte d’Ivoire was a threat to international peace and security in the region, the Security Council today decided to establish a United Nations Mission in Côte d’Ivoire (MINUCI) for an initial period of six months.
