Liberia should be proud of its achievements, but 10 years was too short a time in which to reverse the effects of a war that left a nation shattered and overturn more than a century of social and political exclusion, as well as poor governance, the Security Council heard today.

On 4 September 2013, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1591 (2005) concerning Sudan approved the updates, as underlined below, to one existing entry on its List of Individuals Subject to the Travel Ban and Assets Freeze.

On 4 September, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1970 (2011) concerning Libya updated the entries specified below to its List of Individuals and Entities subject to the travel ban and asset freeze.

On 4 September 2013, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) concerning Al-Qaida and associated individuals and entities removed the name of the entity below from the Al-Qaida Sanctions List after concluding its consideration of a delisting request submitted through the Office of the Ombudsperson established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1904 (2009), and after considering the Comprehensive Report of the Ombudsperson on this delisting request.

September would see the Security Council hold a high-level debate on small arms and their role in fostering conflict, Gary Quinlan, Permanent Representative of Australia, said at Headquarters today as he assumed that organ’s rotating presidency for the month.
