At its thirty-fourth meeting on 5 October 2012, the Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict agreed, in connection with the examination of the fourth report of the Secretary-General on children and armed conflict in the Sudan (document S/2012/413), to address the following message to all the parties to the armed conflict in South Sudan mentioned in the report of the Secretary-General through a public statement by the Chair of the Working Group:

With the mandate of the Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste set for completion at the end of this year, the top United Nations official in the country, along with the leader of the Security Council’s recent visit, celebrated the progress of the fledgling nation and urged further, “innovative” international engagement with it, in the Council Chamber this afternoon.

As Libyans celebrated the first anniversary of national liberation, the formation of a new Government last week boded well for their political transformation, while violent flare-ups were reminders of challenges in the areas of security, reconciliation and the rule of law, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General told the Security Council this morning.
