‘THE POWER OF UN IDEAS’ DURING IMPORTANT YEAR OF ORGANIZATION


Following are UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s remarks at an event to mark the publication of two volumes by the United Nations Intellectual History Project, in New York, 1 June:

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan arrived in Khartoum, Sudan, for a three-day visit on Friday, 27 May, from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  On arrival, he told the waiting press that he expected that, after his visits to Darfur and the south, he would “have a better sense, a first hand impression, of what is going on in the country”.

The Secretary-General is following with concern the growing social tensions in Bolivia.
