‘SHAMEFUL’ TO EXCLUDE PART OF HUMANITY FROM GLOBALIZATION’S BENEFITS, SAYS SECRETARY-GENERAL IN ADDRESS TO HEADQUARTERS MEETING

Following is the address of Secretary-General Kofi Annan to the special high-level meeting of the Economic and Social Council with the Bretton Woods institutions on 18 April:

It gives me great pleasure to welcome our colleagues from the Bretton Woods institutions.

The Secretary-General arrived in Havana, Cuba, in the evening of Monday, 10 April, where he was warmly greeted by Cuban President Fidel Castro.

On 14 April, a series of large explosions occurred at Ndjili airport in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, resulting in a high number of casualties and major devastation of the airport facilities.
