SECRETARY-GENERAL’S SPECIAL ENVOY TO HELP FACILITATE MYANMAR TALKS


      The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:


Mr. Razali Ismail, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Myanmar, will visit Yangon from 27 November to 4 December 2001 to help facilitate the talks between the Government and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for democratization and national reconciliation in Myanmar.

JAMES LEMOYNE APPOINTED ACTING SPECIAL ADVISER ON COLOMBIA


On 13 November, the Secretary-General announced the appointment of James LeMoyne as Acting Special Adviser on Colombia.  Mr. LeMoyne has been serving as Deputy Special Adviser to Jan Egeland, who, it was recently announced, would leave the United Nations early next year to become Secretary-General of the Norwegian Red Cross.  Mr. LeMoyne will assume this position in January 2002, upon
