SECRETARY-GENERAL EXPRESSES SYMPATHY TO GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE OF UKRAINE FOLLOWING BARAKOV MINE ACCIDENT

The Secretary-General has learned of the tragic accident on Saturday in the Barakov mine in Ukraine, which has cost the lives of more than 80 workers. He wishes to convey his sympathies to the Government and people of Ukraine, and his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS ANGELICA HUNT AS DIRECTOR OF UNITED NATIONS INFORMATION CENTRE IN BUENOS AIRES

Secretary-General Kofi Annan has appointed Angélica Hunt as the Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which also covers Uruguay. She is expected to take up her duties on 13 March.
