KINGSTON, 13 August -- The Assembly of the International Seabed Authority, meeting in Kingston this afternoon, decided to elect Australia and Italy to fill vacancies left by Canada and the United States on the 36-member Council of the Authority.
The Secretary-General left New York on Wednesday, 11 August, for Geneva, to participate at a ceremony commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the Geneva Conventions. He spoke at the event, which was sponsored by the International Committee of the Red Cross, on Thursday morning.
