The new Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations, Zsuzsanna Horváth, presented her credentials to the Secretariat today.

The protection of vulnerable communities took centre stage in the Commission for Social Development today, as representatives of Government and civil society alike explored ways to digitally connect the elderly, persons with disabilities, minorities, migrants and people living in rural, coastal or inland areas with the services they need to enhance their well-being.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, commend the people and leaders of Somalia for progress achieved in recent years towards the stabilization of the country. 

Iraq has arrived at a critical crossroads, requiring decisive concerted action to eradicate lingering terrorist threats ahead of national elections, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative in that country told Security Council today during a videoconference briefing.

The Commission for Social Development resumed its general discussion in virtual format today, with representatives of Member States emphasizing the growing importance of digital technology in the global quest to overcome poverty, achieve sustainable development and build better lives for all.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed David Gressly of the United States as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Yemen, with the host Government’s approval.  Mr. Gressly will also serve as Humanitarian Coordinator.
