Secretary-General Appoints Peter Grohmann of Germany United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mexico

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Peter Grohmann of Germany as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mexico, with the host Government’s approval.

Mr. Grohmann has over 25 years of experience in international development and cooperation, acquired at the United Nations and externally.  Within the Organization, he most recently served as Resident Coordinator in Venezuela since 2016, where he was also appointed Humanitarian Coordinator in 2019.  He also worked as Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bahrain, after holding other leadership positions at UNDP, including Country Director in Panama, Deputy Resident Representative in El Salvador and Belize, and Manager of the global Public-Private Partnership Programme for the Urban Environment in New York and then in South Africa.

Prior to joining the United Nations, he worked as an international consultant on local development in Nicaragua and has gained development cooperation experience with the German agency for technical cooperation, non‑governmental organizations and foundations.

Mr. Grohmann holds a postgraduate degree in advanced studies in development and cooperation from the Federal Institute of Technology in Switzerland, and a master’s degree in geography from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn in Germany.
