Concludes High-Level Segment of 2000 Substantive Session
Information and communication technology (ICT) applied during natural disasters had saved many lives and reduced the negative impact of catastrophes such as Hurricane Mitch, Gerardo Zepeda Bermudez, National Minister/Commissioner for Science and Technology of Honduras, told the Economic and Social Council this morning.
The Disarmament Commission concluded its 2000 substantive session this afternoon by adopting its draft report, as orally revised. It also adopted the draft reports of its two working groups.
On Tuesday, 4 July, the Secretary-General flew to Geneva, where he met in the late afternoon with his Special Envoy for the Balkans, Carl Bildt.
The Secretary-General flew from Budapest, Hungary, to Hanover, Germany, on Saturday, 1 July, where he was welcomed by Mayor Herbert Schmalstieg and signed the citys Golden Book for visitors.
