GENEVA, 15 February (UN Information Service) -- The Governing Council of the United Nations Compensation Commission held a special session on 15 February for the purpose of electing a new president and one of the two vice-presidents of the Council.

The Secretary-General was deeply saddened to learn of the second earthquake to strike El Salvador in a month's time.  He extends his condolences to the Government and to the families of the victims.
