PRESS STATEMENT ON DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO


BY PRESIDENT OF SECURITY COUNCIL


Following is the text of today’s press statement on the Democratic Republic of the Congo by the President of the Security Council, Jagdish Koonjul (Mauritius):


Members of the Council welcomed the progress in the peace process and called on the parties to redouble their efforts to bring this process forward.

SECURITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE ESTABLISHED PURSUANT TO RESOLUTION 1267 (1999)


CONCERNING AFGHANISTAN REMOVES ARIANA AFGHAN AIRLINES FROM ITS LIST


The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999) concerning Afghanistan has removed Ariana Afghan Airlines and its accounts from its consolidated list.  The list designates individuals and entities whose funds and other financial resources should be frozen.

SECURITY COUNCIL DECIDES TO LIFT RESTRICTIONS ON ARIANA AFGHAN AIRLINES


The Security Council this afternoon decided to lift restrictions on Ariana Afghan Airlines, as that airline was no longer owned, leased or operated by or on behalf of the Taliban.

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS THREE NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS


FOR CONSULTATIVE STATUS WITH ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL


The Committee on Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) this morning began its consideration of applications for consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) that had been deferred from previous sessions, as it continued its resumed 2001 session.
