FOOD CRISIS THREATENS SEVERAL COUNTRIES IN SOUTHERN AFRICA
NAIROBI/ROME, 16 April (FAO) -- More than 4 million people in southern Africa are threatened by serious food shortages, because of declining food production caused by prolonged dry spells, floods and disruption of farming activities, according to a report released today by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who arrived in Geneva late on Thursday, 11 April, from Rome, addressed the fifty-eighth session of the Commission of Human Rights at the Palais des Nations early on Friday morning.
Secretary-General Kofi Annan arrived in Rome from Madrid in the afternoon of Wednesday, 10 April.
