But the answer to tackling the issue of food-borne hazards which know no geographical boundaries lies very close to home -- in the farms, fields, orchards and rivers, large or small -- where our food has its source.

AMMAN/NAIROBI, 30 March (UNEP) -- Toxic smoke from burning oil wells in southern Iraq and from oil-filled trenches and bomb-ignited fires in Baghdad are the clearest evidence so far that the current conflict may further damage Iraq's already highly stressed environment, according to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The Secretary-General was appalled to learn of the brutal killing yesterday of Richard Munguía, a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Uruzgan province in southern Afghanistan.
