The progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States and achieving sustainable development through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy will be reviewed by the 192-member United Nations General Assembly on 24 and 25 September.
With the continuing loss of biodiversity representing a major obstacle to attainment of the Millennium Development Goals, the United Nations General Assembly will consider strategies for speeding up the implementation of measures to protect and conserve species and ecosystems around the world.
The Global Alliance for Information and Communications Technology and Development (GAID) held a high-level breakfast meeting in New York to launch a set of online tools aimed at providing users around the world with the resources and means to accelerate progress on the Millennium Development Goals at the national level by the target year 2015. The “MDGs eNabler” project is spearheaded by GAID, with support from Governments, private corporations, academia and the civil society.
On the first day of the 2010 Summit on the Millennium Development Goals, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the World Bank’s Vice-President for the Africa region, Obiageli Ezekwesili, added their voices to that of the President of the Central African Republic, François Bozizé, to increase international attention for critical peacebuilding and development challenges in his post-conflict country.
