New strategies are needed to address the impacts of rapid urbanization around the world, including increasing demands for energy, water, sanitation, public services, education and health, according to the World Economic and Social Survey 2013, launched today at the United Nations.

On 1 July 2013, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) concerning Al-Qaida and associated individuals and entities removed the name of the individual below from the Al-Qaida Sanctions List after concluding its consideration of a delisting request submitted through the Office of the Ombudsperson established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1904 (2009), and after considering the Comprehensive Report of the Ombudsperson on this delisting request.
After a long and intense journey, the Umoja design and build phases are coming to fruition. Umoja (Foundation) was completed within the schedule, budget and functionality approved by General Assembly resolution 67/246. Today, Umoja went live with a pilot deployment at the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL).
KINGSTON, 1 July — To ensure that the voices of Caribbean States are heard at the 2014 Conference of Small Island Developing States, representatives of Caribbean States will gather in Kingston, Jamaica, from 2 to 4 July to determine common concerns, exchange experiences and lessons learned, and discuss regional perspectives and positions for the Conference.
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago and the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC), jointly inaugurated the Caribbean Regional Armoury Management Training Centre in Port-of-Spain on 28 June.
