Press Conference

October’s Security Council meetings focused on signature matters like the situation in the Middle East, as well as the women, peace and security agenda, Council President Vassily A. Nebenzia (Russian Federation) said today at a press conference to sum up the month’s activities.

The Security Council will hold several signature debates in October — including one to mark the twentieth anniversary of its landmark resolution 1325 (2000), and another to exchange views on the situation in the Persian Gulf — its President for the month said during a Headquarters press briefing today.

Among the highlights in September, the Security Council agenda will feature a ministerial meeting on the humanitarian effects of environmental degradation on international peace and security and a high-level summit on post COVID-19 global governance, its President for the month told reporters during a video press briefing today.

Having now unanimously adopted a resolution endorsing the Secretary‑General’s call for a global ceasefire amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Security Council will continue to work throughout July to reinforce its people‑centred approach to multilateralism, its President for the month told reporters during a virtual press briefing today.
