Press Conference


Africa would be at the heart of the Security Council’s work in March, with the 15-member body travelling to the continent ahead of open debates on the Great Lakes region and the role of women in conflict prevention and resolution, the Permanent Representative of Angola, the 15-member body’s President for the month, said today at a Headquarters press conference.

The protection of civilians and current tensions stemming from the situation in Syria would be among the priorities of the Security Council in January, the Permanent Representative of Uruguay, President of the 15-member body for the month, said today at a Headquarters press conference.

Addressing the humanitarian situations in Syria and Yemen, as well as ongoing violence in South Sudan and the Central African Republic, would be among the top priorities of the Security Council in December, the Permanent Representative of the United States, President of the 15-member body for the month, said today at a Headquarters press conference.

In October, the Security Council would focus on a range of issues, from the women, peace and security agenda, to the fight against terrorism, to humanitarian crises around the world, the Permanent Representative of Spain said today at a Headquarters press conference.  Among his country’s priorities for October were also the Council’s methods of work and the situation in the Middle East.

In September, the Security Council would focus on a range of issues, from the humanitarian crisis in Syria and the political climate in Lebanon to the broad settlement of conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation said today at a Headquarters press conference.
