Appointments

The Secretary-General has decided to appoint Nicholas Haysom of South Africa as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (Political) for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

The Secretary-General has decided to appoint Jacqueline Carol Badcock, a national of the United Kingdom, as the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Regional Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator, United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq.

The Secretary-General has selected Mr. Sven Alkalaj, a national of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

The Secretary-General has selected Angela Kane of Germany as High Representative for Disarmament Affairs.

The Secretary-General has selected Maged Abdelaziz of Egypt as his Special Adviser on Africa.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and League of Arab States Secretary General Nabil Elaraby have appointed Nasser al-Kidwa as Deputy Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States on Syria. He will assist Joint Special Envoy Kofi Annan in the exercise of his mandate.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Janos Tisovszky as the Director of the United Nations Information Service in Vienna. He will assume his duties on 1 March 2012.

In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Security Council resolution 1757 (2007) on the establishment of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and its Annex, as well as the Statute of the Special Tribunal attached thereto, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Norman Farrell of Canada as the Prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has decided to appoint Judge Theodor Meron of the United States as President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals for a term of four years effective 1 March 2012.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Ayşe Cihan Sultanoğlu of Turkey as Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (RBEC) at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Ms. Sultanoğlu will replace Kori Udovički.
