At its eighty-third meeting, on 30 July 2019, the Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict, in connection with the examination of the fifth report of the Secretary-General on children and armed conflict in Myanmar (document S/2018/956), agreed to convey the following messages through a public statement by the Chair of the Working Group:

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today announced the appointment of Fayaz King of Zimbabwe as Assistant Secretary-General to serve as the Deputy Executive Director, Field Results and Innovation, for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).  He will succeed Shanelle Hall of the United States, to whom the Secretary-General and UNICEF are grateful for her dedicated service.

At its 82^nd meeting, on 9 July 2019, the Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict, in connection with the examination of the second report of the Secretary-General on children and armed conflict in the Syrian Arab Republic, agreed to convey the following messages through a public statement by the Chair of the Working Group:

The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan remains deeply concerned about the impact of the armed conflict on children in South Sudan, as reported on by its Panel of Experts (document S/2018/1049).

At its seventy-sixth meeting, on 18 December 2018, the Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict, in connection with the examination of the second report of the Secretary-General on children and armed conflict in South Sudan (document S/2018/865) agreed to convey the following messages through a public statement by the Chair of the Working Group.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today announced the appointment of Charlotte Petri Gornitzka of Sweden as Assistant Secretary-General to serve as Deputy Executive Director, Partnerships, at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

At its 73^rd meeting, on 7 August 2018, the Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict, in connection with the examination of the sixth report of the Secretary‑General on children and armed conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (document S/2018/502) agreed to convey the following messages through a public statement by the Chair of the Working Group:

The Security Council, acting unanimously at the outset of a far-ranging open debate today, adopted a resolution aimed at further crystalizing the protection of children in armed conflicts, including by combating their recruitment by non-State armed groups and treating formerly recruited children primarily as victims.

At its 71^st Meeting, on 4 May 2018, the Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict, in connection with the examination of the second report of the Secretary-General on children and armed conflict in Mali (document S/2018/136), covering the period from January 2014 to June 2017, agreed to convey the following messages through a public statement by the Chair of the Working Group:

On 11 April 2018, members of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan were briefed by the Panel of Experts on South Sudan in connection with the Panel’s final report, which was submitted in pursuance of paragraph 2 of resolution 2353 (2017).
